Young Composers Seminar
Young composers develop original music through collaborative workshops with Richmond Symphony Composer in Residence Joe Jaxson, culminating in a performance by Richmond Symphony musicians.
Join Richmond Symphony Composer in Residence Joe Jaxson for a collaborative journey from inspiration to performance. Participants gather throughout the season to share and workshop original projects with Joe and one another, culminating in an audio-recorded live performance by Richmond Symphony musicians in May 2027.
The seminar is open to students from high school through their sophomore year of college. Each participant will create a notated score and parts for their final project using software such as MuseScore or Sibelius.
Formal composition training is not required. Students interested in creating new music are encouraged to apply by submitting up to three examples of creative work. Written scores, PDFs, audio recordings, and YouTube links are accepted.
